Why you should hire the pros, and why Southwest Greens of the Valley is leader in the industry for installation practices.

Perhaps you’re asking yourself, “Can I install artificial grass myself?” Yes, it is possible for you to install artificial grass yourself, but it is not easy. The tools and equipment you’d need are pricey, it’s time-consuming to DIY, and you may void any warranties. Now, let’s see why you should have your golf turf professionally installed and artificial turf installation best practices.

WHY PROFESSIONAL ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION

Regardless if you are interested in adding an artificial golf green to your home, or you’re managing a commercial golf course, having artificial turf installed professionally will save you time, headaches, and money — and, over time, provide a better-looking green.

Saved Time

Even tiny do-it-yourself projects can quickly turn into a big to-do. Haven’t we all been there? Repeat trips to the hardware store for supplies or tools we didn’t even know we needed, plans not going according to plan, multiple days of hard work? By having your turf professionally installed, you’ll save time, and you’ll enjoy the greens sooner.

To install artificial golf greens properly, must level the ground, add a crushed aggregate base, add padding, lay the turf, add infill, and roll the turf to have the best playability and to make it look like real grass. Trimming edges for clean borders is challenging and needs a good deal of experience to get it just right. All of this means you need some very specific tools and knowledge to do correctly and avoid wonky sections and edges that end up peeling up creating a terrible look.

Difficult Soil/Landscape

Perfect soil is rare. Most property owners will agree to this. It’s very rare to be able to get your shovel into the ground easily. Instead, we have to deal with stones, thick clay, or soil filled with root systems from plants and trees nearby in many locations. Digging alone can be tiring work. And, if you’re hacking into roots, you could be hurting surrounding trees you might want to keep.

On many of our installation projects, we’ve encountered obstacles such as huge boulders, old (and new) irrigation lines, stumps, just to name a few. All of these things must be repurposed or removed. Excavation itself also produces tons of soil you do not need — what is your plan to deal with it? We often have to transport this excess soil offsite.

A pro installer can arrange all of this . So if you don’t want to do very challenging manual labor or you do not know how to dispose of your excavated soil, hiring a pro installer for your project is your best choice.

Large Areas

When installing a golf green in a large area, seaming becomes among the most difficult elements of the turf to install correctly. Seeming is the method of binding two or more pieces together. Very much like carpet installation, when turf seams are blended correctly, they aren’t noticeable. Seams that aren’t joined correctly will be noticeable and provide an unattractive finished product.

Imagine this: rolling a sheet of paper or a poster. Do you always get the alignment just right when trying to pull-off a good roll? Rather than a clean edge, you sometimes end up with paper sticking out on one end. This same process can happen with seaming artificial turf. One small error in the beginning will ruin the whole project and look awful when finished. An installation professional will have tons of experience doing seams and they will ensure everything looks amazing before they are done.

THE SOUTHWEST GREENS WAY

There are three specific things that separate Southwest Greens of the Valley from others in the turf industry — craftsmanship, guarantees, and customer service. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter artificial turf installations, and because of this, we’ve perfected the art and science of Phoenix artificial turf installation. We’ve built our process with more than 6,000 golf greens across the globe under our belts.

Take a quick look at how our artificial putting green installation process works.

  • A base made of crushed aggregate, which can be moistened and molded to form challenging breaks and undulations, unlike concrete.
  • Next, we install at least a cushion pad that helps the ball roll and shot absorption, then comes our state-of-the-art polypropylene turf material that’s used to emulate the lush green color, softness, and playability of regular grass.
  • We then in-fill the turf with a formulation of fine-coated silica sand which gives it the touch and feel of organic grass.
  • Finally, roll the tops to make the effect of true bent grass green. We offer options including installing first and second cuts fringe, bunkers, sand traps, roughs, and fairways.
